Builder Warranty for New Construction Homes: but what does it cover?
Even though there is a lot of security in purchasing a new home, there is still a chance that something will need to be fixed even if construction ended recently. Luckily, there is often a builders’ warranty that can protect buyers for a certain period of time after the home has been built if there are any repairs that need to be made. That being said, builders’ warranties are often limited in what they actually cover and for how long they cover any problems. Typically, these warranties last for one or two years but there are some instances where it may be longer. Some of the things that the warranty may cover (but it is not guaranteed) include:
- Windows
- Siding
- Doors
- Roofing
- Plumbing
- Electrical
- HVAC Systems
It is important to note that in most cases, the builders’ warranty doesn’t include things that are usually covered under a manufacturers warranty such as appliances, tiling, or drywall. Of course, it is always best to clarify with the builder what is and is not covered under the warranty and how long it lasts.
