Listing Photos are More Important Than You Realize
When you make the decision to put your home up for sale, whether it is for sale by owner or through an agent, one of the most important things you can do is to make sure the listing is accompanied by great photos of your home. Many people won’t even consider the home if there aren’t good pictures of it on any real estate websites. Looking at a home online is often the first step for many prospective buyers, well before they are ready to go look at an open house.
Though some people do choose to have a professional photographer come and take pictures, it is understandably an added cost that just may not be in the budget. If you choose to take pictures of the house on your own, be sure of a few things.
- If you are taking pictures on your cell phone, be sure to take them horizontally, not vertically. This allows the image to show up larger on the screen as well as gets a better idea of what each room looks like.
- Take some time to straighten up the home, inside and out, before taking pictures.
- If your home has a nice view, capture images of it. Everyone loves a good view.
- Make sure each photo is well lit.
- Remove any personal items like family photos, kids toys laying around, and other things that may skew a buyer’s opinion.
