What should I look for when touring a condo or apartment?

When you decide to purchase a condominium or an apartment, you will have to go through a similar process that you would when you decide to buy a home. Of course, purchasing in an apartment building or condominium building is a little bit different than purchasing a single family home because it is obviously a different type of property. There are a few things to keep in mind when you go and tour the different units. Like any other real estate hunting, you need to make a list of your absolute must haves, a list of what you would really like to have but can live without, and the things you don’t think are worth spending the extra money on.

First, since you are buying the property, you have to keep in mind that you are likely allowed to update interior fixtures and paint colors. You have to be sure to look past the outdated stuff and let yourself see the potential. However, if you are looking for a place that is completely move-in ready, you may want to try to look at only newer buildings. The internet is a great resource that can allow you to find information about the building you are buying in to see how old it is.

You should also be sure to take a look at amenities. Are you looking for your building to have a pool, a dog run, and a gym available? Keep in mind, amenities may jack up the price but if you need them, factor the additional costs into your budget.
