What is home staging and should I do it?

Marketing your home when you make the decision to sell is more important than ever. There are so many websites that allow potential buyers to swipe through thousands of listings and photos of homes that they may be interested in buying. If you don’t have your home listed on one of these sites, a potential buyer may not even know it’s there. Or if you do have it on a website like Zillow, etc., but you only have a few low-quality photos of the home and property, buyers may not be quite as attracted to your listing as they would be to a home with a lot of great, high-quality pictures. The primary goal is to make the home look as great as possible any time a potential buyer is looking at it, which not only includes an online listing, but also an open house.

One way that you can make your home look your best is through home staging, a practice most commonly displayed on home improvement/real estate shows on HGTV. Of course, shows on HGTV that utilize home staging have a greater budget than your average home seller, so you should just do what you can. You don’t necessarily need to hire a rental company and spend thousands on bringing in new, nice furniture specifically chosen by an interior designer to dress up your house. If you choose this option, great! But if not, you may want to just touch up some paint, make sure the house is clean, organized, and as de-cluttered as possible.

Your real estate agent can help you make sure your home is marketed the best way possible when you decide to sell. Do what you can because it really can make a difference to potential buyers.
